Luscious Abstractions

Muzeumm says:

Curated by Trevor Norris & Hosted by Mishelle Moross, Over There is a group show featuring the work of Jeff Cain, Cherie Benner Davis, Robbert Flick, Eraldo Mauro, Rebeca Mendez, Danny Shain, Christian Tedeschi, and Ruth Weisberg. The works selected describe the human passage through time and space. In some works, form and structure predominate, while in others, a metaphorical reference to the "Great Mystery" is implied. (Mediums include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and video).

Through various media and means, the artists in Over There traverse themes of movement, journey, and place through straightforward and/or circuitous routes, with some paths ending up turning in on themselves. Distorted and literal emblems of journey and skewed signs and signals of place are presented in the paintings, prints, drawings, and photos, while the video works reach, whirl, and hover. In her reconfigured Thomas Guide collages and carved and painted abstracts, Cherie Benner Davis delineates cerebral and charged pathways; Ruth Weisberg's milky blue images of boats and their passengers bridge the hopeful and forlorn; and Robbert Flick's photographic grids of a desiccated San Gabriel river portend a haunting quality of spent purpose and potential. - A.
